A well-known seminar was recently held in London to talk about how to make it easier for expatriate voters to take part in the upcoming national elections. The main focus was on making the voting procedure more efficient. On Friday, November 14, 2025, the seminar was held at the Bangladesh Press Club in East London. Many members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community were present in the event.
Mahbuba Zebin, the Coordinator of Policy for Good Governance, led the workshop. Mokhlesur Rahman Chowdhury, who used to be an advisor to the President of Bangladesh, gave the keynote speech. Barrister Mahabubur Rahman, Barrister Mehnaz Mannan, Shakir Hossain, President of the Bangladesh Press Club UK, and politicians Nasir Ahmed Shahin and Nazmul Huda Sagar were also on the panel.

The speakers all agreed that the process is still too complicated and time-consuming, even though expatriates have been given the right to vote. As was said, “The real value of expatriate voting rights will be lost if the voting process is not made easier.” The panel told the Election Commission to use technology to make things easier, more open, and more efficient so that expatriates can vote more easily.
Moreover, the seminar had speeches from Barrister Mahabub Toha, Barrister Kanis Fatema, political leaders Dalia Lakuria, Saiful Islam Miraj, Ariz Ahmed, Barrister Iftikhar Roni, Barrister Faisal Ahmed, businessman Faruk Hossain, Alauuddin Russell, Sheikh Sohel Mia, journalist Abdul Kader Zilani, Jannatun Nessa Chayan, Lovely Begum, Sheikh Majharul Islam Sohan, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Ifrad Hossain, Mazdur Rahman Runo, Md. Saifuddin, Maruf Gias Bappi, Aminul Hasan, Maksudur Rahman, Tuhin Mollah, and other important people.

The gathering ended with a demand for changes to the law that would make it easier for expats to vote and recognize the significant economic contributions that expatriates make to Bangladesh’s growth. The people in charge of the event stressed that making reforms to get more expatriates involved in the voting process is important for making the democratic system more open and fair.
