Minhaz Hossen, Italy:
A large protest against racism and discrimination took place in Rome near Casilina 521 on Saturday at 4 PM. Italian human rights groups and local community groups put up the event, which was attended by immigrants from 23 different countries and Italian nationals.
The event, which was meant to promote international unity, was full of colorful signs, posters, and peaceful chants in many languages. The gathering brought together people from many different backgrounds, showing how important it is to be tolerant and united in the face of rising racial tensions.
One of the main speakers was Nure Alam Siddique Bachchu, the head of the Dhumketu Social Organisation. He stressed that racism is not simply a problem in one country, but a problem for all people around the world. “Immigrants are not just workers; they are an important part of Italy’s society, economy, and culture,” he said.
Many well-known people from the Bengali community, such as Hasan Iqbal, Habib Chowdhury, Umme Hani Prince, Mousumi Mridha, Elin Ahmed Mithu, Tarek Hasan, Shafiullah Mehjabin, Sabrina Yasmin, Priyanka Hossain, and Minhaj Hossain, also took part in the event. They all said, We are all part of the same society. They also added -We want to stand together against bigotry and make sure that different cultures may live together.
The people who put up the event repeated their appeal for more recognition of cultural variety and for Italy’s many ethnic communities to appreciate each other more. They made it clear that the march was not just a protest, but also a celebration of the good things that immigrants have done for Italy. Looking ahead, the participants said they would keep doing these kinds of things to safeguard the rights and dignity of immigrants in Italy and build unity.
