The Bangladesh Welfare Council UK has asked Bangladesh’s interim administration to take quick action to stop what it calls long-standing prejudice against Bangladeshis living abroad. The group talked about its worries at a news conference on Wednesday night, November 19, 2025, at a restaurant in East London.
Speakers claimed that Bangladeshi communities still face unfair treatment, especially when it comes to air travel and airport services in Bangladesh, even though they play a big role in the UK’s economy and society.

One of the main demands that stood out was that Sylhet International Airport be turned into a fully equipped international airport. Representatives also spoke out against what they called “discriminatory airfare differences” and demanded for strong action against what they said were syndicate operations within Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

The council’s leaders stated the problems brought up were “fair and urgent,” and they stressed that expats send money back to Bangladesh and invest in the country, which is a big part of its economy. They asked the government to give the issue “serious and immediate attention.”
The group said that a formal document stating the demands has already been sent to the Chief Adviser through the Bangladesh High Commission in London. Speakers said they are ready to announce other programs and modes of protest if there is no progress.
Abdul Mukit, the president of the council, led the event, and Faisal Ahmed, the acting general secretary, moderated it. Selim Hossen, Abdur Rahim Beg, Islam Uddin, Asaduzzaman Shaheen, Khaled Chowdhury, Istahar Uddin, Kodor Uddin, Faruk Ahmed, Dara Mia, Layek Mia, Moshiur Rahman, and Moynul Islam put keynote speech in the press conference.
