Israt Jahan, MBSTU:
Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) carried out solemn ceremonies to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day 2025. They honored the intellectuals who passed away during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.
The memorial service included putting flower wreaths at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial on the university campus, a minute of silence, and a special prayer session asking for eternal peace for the souls who had passed away.
MBSTU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Azim Akhand, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences Professor Dr. Md. Abu Zubair, Proctor Professor Dr. Imam Hossain, Director of the Student Welfare and Counselling Centre Professor Dr. Fazlul Karim, faculty members, students, university officials, and staff were all there.
At the event, speakers talked about the huge sacrifices that intellectuals made during the 1971 Liberation War and prayed for their salvation. Intellectuals were the ones who shaped the political and cultural consciousness of the country. Teachers, doctors, journalists, writers, and academics were very important in laying the ideological groundwork for an independent Bangladesh. Many people thought that their ideas and research were very important in making a free, democratic, and progressive state.
In the days running up to Bangladesh’s independence, the Pakistani occupying troops, with help from local collaborators, systematically killed intellectuals in an effort to destabilize the new nation. Participants stressed that the legacy of the martyred intellectuals continues to inspire future generations to be patriotic, fair, and responsible citizens.
