Ishrat Jahan, MBSTU:
The Department of Accounting at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) held a session called “Self Tax Assessment and Online Return Submission” on November 1, 2025, in the Conference Room of Academic Building-3.
The Vice-Chancellor of MBSTU, Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Azim Akhand, was the Chief Guest at the start of the seminar. Professor Kaniz Mariam Akhter, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, was the event’s Special Guest. Mr. Md. Jahangir Alam, the Inspector of the Tangail Tax Zone for the National Board of Revenue (NBR), gave the keynote speech. Professor Dr. Md. Rostom Ali, head of the Department of Accounting, led the lecture.

Professor Kaniz Mariam Akhter said in her speech, “Paying taxes is not only a civic duty, but it is also a very important part of the country’s growth and progress.”
Mr. Md. Jahangir Alam gave the keynote speech and talked about how important the digital transformation is for taxes. He said, “In the digital age, ‘Self Tax Assessment’ and ‘Online Return Submission’ are important steps toward making the tax process easier for people.” Taxpayers can use the self-assessment system to figure out and submit their own income, expenses, and taxable parts, which encourages them to be financially independent. The Online Return Submission process also makes it easy for taxpayers to file their taxes through the NBR website, which saves them time and effort.
The organizing committee hoped that the self-assessment-based tax system would help taxpayers become more conscious of their responsibilities, and that the online submission process would save time and money. Their slogan was “One Click, One Goal: A Self-Reliant Citizen.”

People from different departments at the university, as well as university authorities and staff, came to the seminar to talk about how these changes would affect the tax system and the economy of the country.
